We aim for sustainable development of the desired change after the completion of our consultancy.  To achieve this we:

  • work in partnership with clients, clarifying goals and exploring how best to achieve these
  • keep clients informed of emerging issues and key findings
  • encourage joint sense-making and co-creation of potential solutions
  • share knowledge, observations and processes, to aid organisational learning

We contract with clients, clarifying expectations and outcomes. The HBMC contract covers:

  • scope, purpose and intended outputs and outcomes
  • protocols or boundaries, the mode of working, respective roles and responsibilities
  • processes that enable contracts to be a ‘live’ agreement, subject to agreed changes

We aim for positive communication with all engaged in the consultancy process.  To achieve this we:

  • treat individuals respectfully in all interactions, expressing difference without judging anyone to be ‘wrong’
  • offer constructive feedback and encourage feedback from others
  • express our views openly and honestly with the appropriate person
  • respect privacy and negotiate appropriate levels of confidentiality

Diversity and equality

We recognise each person as unique in terms of their life experience and traditions whilst challenging whenever appropriate. We respect and value diversity and strive to:

  • be aware of and respect cultural, individual and role differences
  • avoid perpetuating disadvantage or discrimination
  • work constructively with conflict recognising it can sometimes be positive

Evaluation and endings

We aim to achieve stated goals and outcomes, and to learn from the consultancy.  To evaluate this we:

  • review work done, how far goals have been reached, and other achievements
  • encourage a joint exploration of clients’ and consultants’ learning
  • encourage feedback on improvements in roles and performance
  • at the end of the process, disengage formally - having agreed the exit points

Professional development

We are committed to learning and development, for personal growth and improved practice.  Thus we:

  • use peer review, supervision or support to reflect on and learn from
  • keep our knowledge and skills updated
  • work within our capability, referring clients to others where appropriate
  • seek feedback from clients and colleagues.

Value for money

We aim to offer best value by:

  • maintaining quality of delivery
  • working effectively and efficiently
  • keeping our overheads in check.
